The Human Body is Lazy. That Doesn't Mean You Are.

Where will you be in 30 years? Take a second to think about that. Now, in that thought of you 30 years from now, were you able to do basic day to day things like sit down in a chair, get up off the floor, play with your kids or grandkids or even walk down the street? Great! Now, were you doing these things as easily as you would today? Pain free, without assistance and fully mobile? Probably not… and here’s why.

The human body is lazy. We all have that urge to sit on the couch and do nothing, sometimes for hours at a time (and if you say you don’t, you’re lying to yourself). The human body is designed to make things easier for itself in every way possible. That’s why so many people have poor posture, for example. If the human body can take a shortcut, it will convince you it’s a good idea and make you take that shortcut. For instance, when you run with a trailing leg and heel strike, your body is convincing you that it is an easy option because it’s hard work making the glutes fire and using the hip flexor to get the leg in a tight position. However, do this trailing leg/heel strike repeatedly and you get tired and worn out faster. The human body is lazy, not efficient.

Every person has “Mondayitis” and every person has a hard time doing the things that require effort, it’s human nature. It’s how you handle it that counts. So now is the time to stop beating up on yourself over not getting to that training session or sleeping past that alarm. It’s also the time to figure out how to get past that never ending lazy bone that exists in the human body.

Make a plan and stick to it

Plan to get to the gym and treat it like your life or your job depends on it… Because ,in the long run, it does. You would be fired for cancelling on meetings with your boss all the time and if you don’t start doing something about your health now you will most definitely be forced to pay attention to your health as you age when you need medical attention.

Don’t think so hard

Keep it simple. The more complicated you make things, the harder it is for you to actually want to do it. Don’t over think it. Don’t think about how hard it will be to workout today just turn up and do the best you can. Your body will thank you for it,

Keep working for it

Once you hit a goal you can’t relax. That’s the time to excel and take things to another level. Make a new plan and start to chip away at it. Before you know it people will be asking you how you keep fit and stay motivated.

These are some of the most simple, yet forgotten things to keep in mind when you’re going through that slump and feel like you have fallen off the wagon.

Just keep moving forward and keep that chin up. Life is a journey, enjoy the ride.
